Elsewhere | A residency within a living museum
While in Greensboro, NC last week, I had the opportunity to tour Elsewhere, a residency program within a "living museum", the site of a former thrift shop and "horderculturalist" gold mine. Their model is unique: resident artists, asked to arrive without preconceived notions of the direction of their work while in residence, have access to the enormous range of material on site. The catch is that all work made at Elsewhere stays at Elsewhere, with materials often being repurposed and recycled for future artists' use. Much of the available material is a reflection of Greensboro's ties to the textile industry, such as ribbon, fabric and buttons. Check out this unique regional resource and consider applying.
